"She has grown weary with lies"

Text: Ezekiel 24:12

WHERE CLEANSING DID NOT WORK

The Lord had sought to cleanse Jerusalem and to keep her holy. But Jerusalem chose to remain in her sinful ways. The Lord then decided that He would no longer seek to cleanse Jerusalem. There was a hard alternative God chose for Jerusalem.

“‘She has grown weary with lies,
And her great scum has not gone from her.
Let her scum be in the fire!
In your filthiness is lewdness.
Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed,
You will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore,
Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.
I, the Lord, have spoken it;
It shall come to pass, and I will do it;
I will not hold back,
Nor will I spare,
Nor will I relent;
According to your ways
And according to your deeds
They will judge you,’
Says the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 24:12-14

1. The sinful ways of Jerusalem.

a) Lying was her way of life.

b) Filthy lewdness.

c) Compared to “scum” (dirt).

d) Jerusalem had not changed one bit.

2. Cleansing work of God.

a) Through the words of rebuke by the prophets.

b) Through punishment meted out.

c) These things should have caused Jerusalem to change for the better.

d) But nothing was changed for Jerusalem became worse and worse.

3. The final verdict of the Lord.

a) This was an irreversible decision of the Lord.

b) God will no longer spare Jerusalem.

c) God will deal with Jerusalem according to her ways and deeds.

d) God will allow the Babylonians to judge Jerusalem.

e) He will no longer deliver Jerusalem from danger and disaster.

f) Jerusalem would fall!
