"I have poured out My indignation"

Text: Ezekiel 22:31

THE PEOPLE IN JUDAH

They were also held accountable for their misdeeds. They could not be excused just because the princes and the prophets were guilty of wrongdoing!

“‘The people of the land have used oppressions,
committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy;
and they wrongfully oppress the stranger.
So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall,
and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land,
that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.
Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them;
I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath;
and I have recompensed their deeds on their own heads,’
says the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 22:29-31

1. The misdeeds of the people.

a) They oppressed those who were weaker.

b) They were robbers.

c) They mistreated the following:

i) The poor

ii) The needy

iii) The strangers (foreigners)

2. God looked for an intercessor.

a) Abraham was an intercessor.

b) Moses was an intercessor too.

c) But God could not find even one intercessor from Judah!

3. What does an intercessor do?

a) He is compared to a strong wall offering protection.

b) He is supposed to stand in the gap before God, interceding for the nation.

c) He is to pray that God would turn aside His wrath.

d) But no intercessor was found to pray for Judah.

4. God’s righteous anger.

a) He will now pour out His indignation against the land of Judah.

b) The people would be consumed by His fiery wrath.

c) God will recompense the people for their misdeeds.

d) They will reap what they have sown.

e) They will be punished severely for all their wicked misdeeds!
