"They violate women"

Text: Ezekiel 22:10

RANK IMMORALITY

Another gross sin was highlighted. This sin was a dark blemish on the soul of the nation! Women were prey to the men who were predators!

“In you men uncover their fathers’ nakedness;
in you they violate women who are set apart during their impurity.
One commits abomination with his neighbour’s wife;
another lewdly defiles his daughter-in-law;
and another in you violates his sister, his father’s daughter.”
Ezekiel 22:10-11

1. Uncover their father’s nakedness.

a) This sin was committed by Ham, one of the sons of Noah (Genesis 9:20-25).

b) Ham expressed total disregard for his father’s dignity.

i) He was churlish, uncouth and disrespectful.

ii) He was cursed by Noah for his unwarranted behaviour.

c) The same sin-problem was noted in Judah in the days of Ezekiel.

2. Violating women in their impurity

a) The Levitical laws protected women when they had their menses.

b) They were considered “impure” and men were expected to respect them.

c) However, this law was disregarded and the women were violated in their state of impurity.

3. Three other sexual assaults were mentioned.

a) Rape is a heinous crime-sin.

b) Judah was accused of committing this crime-sin.

c) This sin had to be highlighted because of its evil nature.

d) Three types of rape were noted:

i) The raping of the wives of neighbours.

ii) The raping of a daughter-in-law.

iii) The raping of a sister.

The Lord had to punish the culprits for their violation and their assault of the women-folk!
