"I will rule over you"

Text: Ezekiel 20:33

GOD’S PLANS REVEALED

The Lord revealed His plans to Israel through His servant, the prophet Ezekiel. This plan involved three parts.

“‘As I live,’ says the Lord God,
‘surely with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm,
and with fury poured out, I will rule over you.
I will bring you out from the peoples
and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered,
with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm,
and with fury poured out.
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples,
and there I will plead My case with you face to face.
Just as I pleaded My case with your fathers
in the wilderness of the land of Egypt,
so I will plead My case with you,’ says the Lord God.”
Ezekiel 20:33-36

1. The punitive aspect

a) God would not withdraw His punitive hand.

b) He would pour out His fury on Israel:

i) For its many sins.

ii) For its stubbornness.

iii) For being unrepentant.

c) This is how He would order His rule over the errant nation.

i) Their sins have to be dealt with severely.

ii) They would be in exile.

iii) They would be scattered in many countries.

2. The Gathering of Israel.

a) God will in the future gather His people who were scattered.

b) He would do this:

i) With a mighty hand.

ii) With an outstretched arm.

iii) He will exercise fury if He needs to.

3. Pleading with His people.

a) He will bring the returnees into the wilderness.

b) The land they return to would be like a wilderness for it had not been cared for.

c) He would reason with His people.

d) He would present His case to them.

e) This was what He did when His servant Moses led His people out of Egypt.
