Exodus
Day
Day 75

"The counsel of the LORD stands forever; The plans of His heart to all generations." Psalm 33:11

Text: Exodus 9 : 22-26

A DAZZLING DISPLAY OF POWER

God has no other intention than to free His people from their bondage to Pharaoh! Because of the reluctance of Pharaoh to release the children of Israel, God had to display His dazzling power!

“Then the LORD said to Moses,
‘Stretch out your hand toward heaven,
that there may be hail in the land of Egypt –
on man, on beast, and on every herb of the field,
throughout the land of Egypt.”
EXODUS 9:22

It all seemed so simple! A mere stretching of the hand towards heaven, and a hailstorm erupts! It was that simple to God!

DEVASTATION OF EGYPT

How did Moses feel as he executed all these plagues in the mighty name of the Lord God of the Hebrews? He must have been awed and humbled even as he sought to obey the Lord!

“And Moses stretched out his rod toward heaven;
and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire darted
to the ground. And the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt.
So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail,
so very heavy that there was none like it in all the land of Egypt
since it became a nation. And the hail struck throughout
the whole land of Egypt…”
EXODUS 9:23-25a

How does one measure such devastation? If only Pharaoh chose to humble himself before the Lord!

ESPECIALLY PRESERVED

The Lord’s word of promise was that where His people dwelt, there would not be hail! The Scriptures carefully recorded that this was indeed true!

“Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were,
there was no hail.”
EXODUS 9:26

What a clear distinction God made between His people and those who resisted Him. How true is the following statement:-

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD;
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”
PSALM 33:12

The children of Israel had no cause for complaint now! The sorrow they felt in their hearts was gone now. In place of it, a new sense of awe and wonder arose!
