Text: Exodus 39 : 1,5,7,21,26,29,31

A KEEN SENSE OF AWARENESS OF GOD

Just how aware were Bezalel and Aholiab of God as they worked hard on the Tabernacle project? We catch a glimpse of that special sense of awareness in a phrase that kept recurring.

“As the LORD had commanded Moses” EXODUS 39:1

This statement was made with general reference to the making of the priestly garments (Exodus 39:1). It was also used again and again.

1. With reference to the making of the Ephod Exodus 39:5

2. With reference to the Memorial Stones Exodus 39:7

3. With reference to the Breastplate Exodus 39:21

4. With reference to the Robe of the Ephod Exodus 39:26

5. With reference to the Tunics Exodus 39:29

6. With reference to the high priestly crown Exodus 39:31

SIGNIFICANCE OF FULFILLING ALL THAT GOD HAD COMMANDED

What was the significance of this recurring statement? Let us ponder the following thoughts.

1. A word of commendation

Israel had not always been conscious of obeying the Lord and His commands! Bezalel and Aholiab on the other hand were to be commended indeed.

2. An example to the nation

Bezalel and Aholiab were wonderful examples to Israel. Has God given a commandment to Israel? Then that word must be obeyed. They proved that it was possible to obey the Lord’s commandments with a great sense of devotion and faithfulness.

3. An insight into the heart of these two faithful servants

We have a beautiful and rare insight into the heart of these two faithful servants of God. While they must have been conscious of their artistic skills, they were even more conscious that they must subject all that they thought and felt to the Lord and His commandments! They did not let their personal and subjective feelings get the better of them at any time! The way to do it was to keep a keen sense of awareness of God’s Presence and His commandments!
