Day 135

"And He said to me, 'You are My servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified." Isaiah 49:3

Text: Exodus 18 : 8-9

GLORIFYING GOD

After all the news of the family had been exchanged, Moses went on to share about what the Lord had done for Israel.

“And Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done
to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardship
that had come upon them on the way, and how the LORD had
delivered them.”
EXODUS 18:8

Moses singled out four things that he and Israel had experienced since he left for Egypt!

1.”All that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians”

But of course, Moses would speak of what the Lord had done in Egypt! The ten plagues God unleashed upon Pharaoh and Egypt were unforgettable experiences!

2. “For Israel’s sake”

This was an important perspective that must be shared! Moses was right to highlight Israel’s most favoured position! How privileged and blessed Israel was to enjoy this relationship with God!

3. “All the hardship that had come upon them on the way”

Moses spoke openly and candidly about the trials that had befallen Israel on the way to Canaan! It was hard going for all! Leadership of a complaining multitude told heavily upon Moses!

4. “How the LORD had delivered them”

There may have been difficulties, but would it not be better to speak of the deliverance that God gave to His people? This was what Moses chose as his perspective of faith and life!

A HEART-WARMING RESPONSE

Jethro was a priest in Midian. And as he listened to Moses, his heart could not but feel amazement and joy.

“Then Jethro rejoiced for all the good which the LORD had done
for Israel, whom He had delivered out of the hand of the
Egyptians.”
EXODUS 18:9

Jethro concurred with Moses in highlighting this important truth – that God had indeed done great things for Israel. Divine deliverance of this nature was most uncommon! It was something that must not be taken for granted! Reflection of all that God had done for Israel was cause for constant rejoicing!
