Exodus

Exodus
Day
Day 122

"Remember these, O Jacob, and Israel, for you are My servant; I have formed you, you are My servant; O Israel you will not be forgotten by Me!" Isaiah 44:21

Text: Exodus 16 : 4-7

NOT FORGOTTEN FOR A MOMENT!

The children of Israel had no reason to complain as they did! How could they have thought that God somehow had forgotten them? Once again, the Lord brought up the subject of testing the people to Moses’ attention.

“Then the LORD said to Moses,
‘Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you.
And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day,
that I may test them, whether they will walk in My law or not.
And it shall be on the sixth day that they shall prepare what
they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”
EXODUS 16:4-5

1. The promise of bread from heaven

Could the people believe what God had just promised? He would feed them with bread from heaven! The population of Israel at this point of time could possibly be over two million people (Cf. Exodus 12:37-38, Over six hundred thousand men were counted; women, children and a mixed multitude came out of Egypt with the children of Israel)! God was unfazed by the staggering amount of bread that He would have to create to feed each person! The greater challenge was for Israel to believe that God could indeed provide for so many and daily!

2. The principle of testing applied

God told Moses that He would test the people! They were to collect what they needed for the family on a daily basis. However, on the sixth day, they must collect enough for the next day! Would the people walk in God’s law or would they choose to disobey? That was the test!

THE GLORY OF THE LORD

Armed with this message from the Lord, Moses and Aaron addressed the children of Israel.

“Then Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel,
‘At evening you shall know that the LORD has brought you out
of the land of Egypt. And in the morning you shall see the glory
of the LORD; for He hears your complaints against the LORD;
But what are we, that you complain against us?”
EXODUS 16:6-7

Had not the children of Israel seen the glory of the Lord, time and again? Was His glory not displayed in the plagues wrought in Egypt? Surely His glory was evidenced at the crossing of the Red Sea. Every day, the Lord’s Protection was manifested in the presence of the Pillar of Cloud and Pillar of Fire! Could Israel not see all these expressions of the glory of the Lord? How could they not see God’s glory?
