Ephesians
Day
Day 343

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

Text: Ephesians 6:17

THE HELMET

The helmet (“perikephalaia”) offered vital protection for the head. The typical Roman helmet would have the following features:-

1. It was made of bronze.

2. The helmet came with cheek pieces.

3. The helmet had an inner lining so that the helmet was bearable.

The bronze helmet was an expensive piece of equipment. It was so well made that only a heavy blow with an axe could bring about serious damage.

THE DOCTRINE OF SALVATION

One of the cruelest attacks the wicked one can mount against believers concerns our salvation. Here are some examples of how he could attack:-

1. The wicked one will cast doubts

a) Many have had to battle serious doubts as to whether God could forgive grave sins.
b) Many have lost confidence because their past haunts them.
c) He will not hesitate to accuse us day and night of our many sins.

2. The wicked one will offer cheap alternatives of salvation

a) He will suggest that we need to work for our salvation.
b) He will suggest that we will never be sure of our salvation (robbing us of joy).

THE HELMET OF SALVATION

How wonderful it is to read texts like the following ones. Thank God for this helmet of salvation that protects our minds from being hurt by blows from the devil.

If we are faithless, He remains faithful.
He cannot deny Himself.
2 TIMOTHY 2:13

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance
of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil
conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
