Ephesians

Ephesians
Day
Day 267

"Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light."

Text: Ephesians 5:7-8

DECISION TIME

It was decision time. Both sides had been clearly delineated. One could
not sit on the fence. Let us do a quick review of what Paul had taught:-

1. As dear children (of God)

a) Imitate God (Ephesians 5:1)
b) Walk in the love of Christ (Ephesians
5:2
)
c) As saints (Ephesians 5:3)
d) Giving of thanks (Ephesians 5:4)

2. As sons of disobedience

a) Fornication (Ephesians 5:3)
b) Uncleanness (Ephesians 5:3)
c) Covetousness (Ephesians 5:3)
d) Filthiness (Ephesians 5:4)
e) Foolish talking (Ephesians 5:4)
f) Coarse jesting (Ephesians 5:4)
g) Idolatry (Ephesians 5:5)

THEREFORE DO NOT BE PARTAKERS WITH THEM

Paul’s admonition not to be partakers with the sons of disobedience, the
idolaters, was based on sound reasoning. The believer is surely able to
make the right decision.

“Therefore”

This is an obvious appeal to employ sound reasoning to make a good
decision.

“Partakers” (“summetochoi”)

This word describes the idea of one who casts his lot. The true believer
will never cast his lot with the sons of disobedience. It is simply
illogical and unthinkable that he could participate in idolatrous
worship with all its evil practices.
