"Nor give place to the devil."

Text: Ephesians 4:27

PAUL’S BELIEF CONCERNING THE DEVIL

Paul believed that there was a personal devil. He recognized the devil’s involvement in the affairs of mankind. Let us recall what Paul wrote in an earlier chapter.

You once walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.
EPHESIANS 2:2

1. The devil (“diabolos”)

The idea behind the word “devil” is “one who slanders”.

2. He influences the course of the world

His influence is invisible, but nonetheless very real and powerful.

3. The devil has power

He has power to cause mankind to sin against God.

4. The devil’s domain

He is called “the prince of the power of the air”. This is his “domain”.

a) This domain is not heaven.
b) This domain includes the earth and this he can influence its inhabitants thereof.

5. The wicked activities of the devil

He delights in causing people to revolt in disobedience:-

a) In the context of so the socio-political world.
b) In the context of the organized church.
c) In the context of the family.

NOR GIVE PLACE TO THE DEVIL

The phrase “give place” was written in strong imperative language. What does this mean:-

1. The believer must recognize who the true enemy is.

2. The believer must not yield at all to the devil.

3. The believer must resist the devil and his efforts at all times and at any cost.
