Ephesians

Ephesians
Day
Day 198

"There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling."

Text: Ephesians 4:4

CAREFULLY INTERWOVEN THOUGHTS

All seven thoughts of Paul are closely interlinked. No single thought is more important than the next. All thoughts are carefully and intricately interwoven in such a way they provide every encouragement to work hard at keeping unity in the Church.

ONE SPIRIT (“pneuma”)

It is always good to trace Paul’s thoughts back to its roots. Let us consider how Paul understood and appreciated the work of the Spirit of God in his letter to the Ephesians.

1. The Holy Spirit is our Seal and Guarantee

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth,
the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed,
you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption
of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
EPHESIANS 1:13-14

2. The Holy Spirit is our special Teacher

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the
knowledge of Him…
EPHESIANS 1:17

3. The Holy Spirit enables us to have access to God the Father

For through Him we both have access by one Spirit
to the Father.
EPHESIANS 2:18

4. The Holy Spirit is involved in the building of God’s dwelling place

In whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place
of God in the Spirit.
EPHESIANS 2:22

5. The Holy Spirit as the great Revealer of Hidden truths

Which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men,
as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles
and prophets…
EPHESIANS 3:5

6. Bearing in mind the work of the Spirit of God to preserve Unity

Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
EPHESIANS 4:3

We will be that much more united if we were to be conscious of the Holy Spirit’s role in the Church.
