Day 192

"Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

Text: Ephesians 4:3

REVIEWING THE CONCEPT OF UNITY IN THE CHURCH

Paul took great pains to explain the concept of “unity” that Christ Jesus had created between Jew and Gentile. Let us take time to review what he had written and emphasized earlier.

1. It took none other than Jesus Himself to bring about unity

For He Himself is our peace,
who has made both one,
and has broken down the middle wall
of separation.
EPHESIANS 2:14

2. The new entity- “One new man”

To create in Himself one new man
from the two, thus making peace.
EPHESIANS 2:15

3. The new Body of Christ

And that He might reconcile them both to God
in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death
the enmity.
EPHESIANS 2:16

UNITY HAS ALREADY BEEN ACHIEVED

In principle, the concept of unity had already been achieved. The death of the Lord Jesus Christ made this unity possible.

THE ROLE OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD

The Spirit of God has a vital role in this oneness. Once again, let us take time to review what Paul had taught earlier.

1. The Spirit of God ushers us into the Presence of God

For through Him (Christ Jesus) we both have access
by one Spirit to the Father.
EPHESIANS 2:18

2. The Spirit of God is the One who builds us up

In whom you also are being built together
for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
EPHESIANS 2:22

3. The Spirit of God as the One who unifies us

Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit
in the bond of peace.
EPHESIANS 4:3

Unity in the Church is a concept that we must carefully endeavor to uphold. The redemptive work of Christ, and that of the Spirit of God must ever be borne in mind.
