Ephesians
Day
Day 136

"By which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ."

Text: Ephesians 3:4

THE MYSTERY OF CHRIST

We should be as deeply interested in knowing the Lord Jesus Christ as the apostle Paul was. In fact it may be said that knowledge of Christ is the most natural desire of every believer. The apostle Peter had this to say about the search for the knowledge of Christ, for in Jesus is salvation for our souls.

“Whom having not seen you love.
Though now you do not see Him, yet believing,
you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
receiving the end of your faith- the salvation of your souls,
of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched
carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ
who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand
the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.”
1 PETER 1:8-11

The following statements may be made concerning our search for the knowledge of the mystery of Christ.

1. Emulating the example of the prophets of old

Let us seek to walk in the footsteps of the prophets of God:-

a) They “inquired” – a reference to prayer
b) They “searched carefully”- a reference to the study of the Scriptures

2. Content of the search of the prophets of old

a) With reference to the timing of the coming of Christ
b) With reference to the suffering of Christ
c) With reference to “the glories that would follow”

3. Our Challenge today

a) To avail ourselves of the grace that has already been given to us
b) To comprehend thoroughly that which has already been accomplished in Christ
c) To fathom that which has not been fulfilled yet… “the glories that would follow”

OUR SPECIAL ADVANTAGE

We may not have the privilege of receiving revelation that the prophets and apostles had. However, we too may rejoice greatly, for we have the complete and full revelation of the Scriptures. Let us avail ourselves of the inspired Scriptures!
