Ephesians

Ephesians
Day
Day 95

"Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of the commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace."

Text: Ephesians 2:15

WITH A GREAT SENSE OF PURPOSE

When the Lord Jesus was incarnated, He bore in mind the will of God. He understood the magnitude of the task the Father had assigned to Him. The first part of that task was to abolish the wall of enmity between Jew and Gentile. There was another part that had to be fulfilled. He would have to “create in Himself a new man.” The sense of purpose is very clearly stated in the phrase “so as to.”

THE LORD JESUS AS CREATOR

It is interesting to note how the Scriptures make reference to the Lord Jesus as Creator. There are at least four aspects that are readily discernible.

1. As Co-Creator

The apostle John began his Gospel by introducing Jesus as Co-creator.

“All things were made through Him,
and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
JOHN 1:3

2. As the Agent through whom Creation took place

“Has in these last days spoken to us by His Son,
whom He has appointed heir of all things,
through whom also He made the worlds…”
HEBREWS 1:2

3. New Creation- Of all believers

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
He is a new creation; old things have passed away;
Behold, all things have become new.”
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

4. New Creation- Jew and Gentile as “one man”

“So as to create in Himself one new man from the two”
EPHESIANS 2:15

“IN HIMSELF”

Once again, we come across the ubiquitous reference of Christ Jesus. This task was truly phenomenal.

1. By Himself, He abolished the wall of enmity

2. In Himself, He created a new entity- “one new man”

a) The role of Christ is indisputably “central”
b) Laws and ordinances will not be sufficient to bind Jew and Gentile as one
c) It is vital to note that this new entity is a powerful work of “creation” .
