Ephesians
Day
Day 120

"In whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit."

Text: Ephesians 2:22

A DWELLING PLACE OF GOD

A great sense of thrill should be felt as we put together all the things that Paul had taught thus far:-

1. A New Entity called “the Church”

a) The Church is also called “The Body” of the Lord Jesus (Ephesians 1:22)
b) This new entity is also called “the holy temple” (Ephesians 2:21)

2. Foundations of the Church

The foundation has already been laid.

a) Apostles
b) Prophets
c) Jesus Christ, as the chief cornerstone (Ephesians 2:20)

3. Building of the Temple-Church

a) God Himself is the Divine Builder (Ephesians 1:19-22)
b) The Building blocks are His saints (Ephesians 2:22; 1 Peter 2:5)
c) Both Jews and Gentiles have equal rights and privileges (Ephesians 2:19)

IN THE SPIRIT

How does God dwell in the Church? For that matter, how does God dwell in our hearts? This is in itself most mystifying as a concept. Nevertheless it is wondrously true. Let us ponder this wonderful promise of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Jesus answered and said to him,
‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word;
and My Father will love him,
And We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
JOHN 14:23

There was also the promise of the Indwelling of the Spirit of God.

“The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
because it neither sees Him nor knows Him;
but you know Him, for He dwells with you
and will be in You.”
JOHN 14:17

How would God dwell in the Church? His Presence is found in the phrase “in the spirit”. It will be a very spiritual presence, but of absolute importance.
