Ephesians

Ephesians
Day
Day 31

"In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will."

Text: Ephesians 1:11

THE WORK OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

There is no question that Paul had a very Christocentric theology. Again and again, he would highlight the role that the Lord Jesus Christ played in man’s redemption. However, this does not mean that the Father had a lesser role.

THE WORK OF GOD THE FATHER IN SALVATION’S PLAN

Paul correctly highlights an important truth concerning God’s involvement in salvation. The following things may be observed from our study of Ephesians 1.

1. Planning with great wisdom

God planned our salvation most carefully, planning each and every detail, leading to the redemption of man.

“He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence”
EPHESIANS 1:8

2. Predestining/Choosing

God’s plans were thought out, even before the foundation of the world. What an astounding mind God must possess.

“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.”
EPHESIANS 1:4

3. Blessing

God’s plan of salvation included giving us the richest of blessings in the heavenly places.

“Who has blessed us with every blessing in the heavenly places…”
EPHESIANS 1:3

4. Revealing

God’s will could not have been comprehended if He did not reveal it to man.

“Having made known to us the mystery of His will…”
EPHESIANS 1:9

5. Gathering

God has plans that He has not yet fulfilled. This can only mean one thing- that God has not ceased working!

“He might gather together in one all things in Christ…”
EPHESIANS 1:10

THE CONTINUING WORK OF GOD THE FATHER

Does God continue to work today? Paul insists that God is still actively working out His great plans. Ponder the following phrase.

“Who works all things according to the counsel of His will”
EPHESIANS 1:11

Another wonderful text, from the book of Isaiah confirms this great truth.

“Indeed, I have spoken it;
I will also bring it to pass;
I have purposed it; I will also do it.”
ISAIAH 46:11
