"The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious"
Text: Ecclesiastes 10:12
A SPECIAL FEATURE OF WISDOM
Wisdom has many other significant features. One of them is “graciousness”. Wisdom’s beauty is seen in this quality.
“The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious,
But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up.”
Ecclesiastes 10:12
1. “The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious”
a) The words of a wise man:
i) They are deep.
ii) They are insightful.
iii) They are helpful (practical).
iv) They are true.
b) The words of a wise man’s mouth:
i) They are “gracious”.
ii) They are full of understanding.
iii) They are kindly spoken.
iv) They are never rude or abrasive.
2. “But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up”
a) The words of a fool are worthless.
b) The consequences to others:
i) They can cause misunderstanding.
ii) They can cause much damage.
iii) They can be destructive.
c) The consequences to self:
i) He will end up hurting himself.
ii) He will end up being “swallowed up”.
iii) One will reap what he sows.
