The Life Of Jesus

Text: Colossians 2:12

The apostle Paul drew much from the life of Jesus to teach vital spiritual lessons. He highlighted some aspects of the life of Jesus that was most significant.

“Buried with him in baptism, in which you also were raised
with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him
from the dead.”
Colossians 2:12

1. The Circumcision of Jesus

Its significance was mentioned in Colossians 2:11.

2. “Buried with Him”

a) This includes His suffering on the Cross.
b) His death.
c) His burial.

3. “Raised Him from the dead”

a) God raised Jesus from the dead.
b) This was “the working of God”.
c) His resurrection had great theological significance.
i) It symbolised that the redemptive work of Christ was complete.
ii) The Lord had accepted the atonement of Jesus as the sacrificial “Lamb of God”.

4. The symbol that represented all these great symbolic truths

a) This symbol was “baptism” (Called “the baptism” in Colossians 2:12).
b) Through baptism the believer is identified with Christ.
c) He is said to be “in Him”.
d) Represented in Baptism are the following things:-
i) We died with Christ.
ii) We were buried with Him.
iii) We were raised with Him.

5. The Role of Faith

a) Through faith these truths are made applicable to us.
b) The believer must possess genuine faith in Christ.
