Our Standing Before God

Text: Colossians 1:22

The ramifications of Christ’s atonement are tremendous! The following text highlights an astounding truth!

“In the body of His flesh through death, to present
you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight-”
Colossians 1:22

1. “In the body of His flesh”

a) This is a reference to the physical body of Christ Jesus.
i) He was The Word that became flesh (John 1:14).
ii) He was also fully God in His eternal and divine essence (John 1:1-5).
b) As man
i) He was subject to all the laws pertaining to flesh and blood.
ii) Jesus humbled Himself and was obedient to God.
iii) He suffered death that redemption may be made possible.

2. Ramifications of Christ’s atonement

a) To present us:-
i) Purpose is indicated.
ii) Even more, the result was the whole point of His atonement.
b) Presentation of those who have faith in Christ before God:-
i) We stand “holy” before God.
ii) We also stand “blameless”.
iii) We stand “above reproach”.
c) In His sight
i) Before God.
ii) Before His very presence.

3. Part of the Reconciliation work of Christ

a) These ramifications are to be appreciated as part of Christ’s work of reconciliation.
b) Salvation in Christ must not be spoken of glibly.
c) Our salvation was bought at a great price- the blood of Jesus paid for our redemption!
