"It was I who destroyed the Amorite"

Text: Amos 2:9

WHO WERE THE AMORITES

The Amorites were probably one of the kingdoms existing in Canaan before Israel conquered the land. They were a powerful nomadic tribe. An early mention of the Amorites was noted by Moses and recorded in Deuteronomy 2-3. Two kings of gigantic features were noted. Both Sihon and Og, the Amorite kings were destroyed by the Lord through the army led by Joshua.

MENTION OF THE AMORITES IN AMOS

Amos made mention of the Amorites for good reason. This was carefully noted by the prophet.

“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them,
Whose height was like the height of the cedars,
And he was as strong as the oaks;
Yet I destroyed his fruit above
And his roots beneath.”
