"That He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest..."

Text: Hebrews 2:17

JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST IN THE NEW COVENANT

In the Sinaitic covenant, the high priesthood was given to Aaron. His sons would become the priests and the Levites would be their assistants.

In the new covenant, Jesus would be the High Priest. The following text is an important introductory statement about His ministry as High Priest.

“Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren,
that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things
pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted,
He is able to aid those who are tempted.”
