"For the Lord GOD will help Me..."

Text: Isaiah 50:7

A GREAT FAITH

The Messiah-Servant must possess a great faith in God or He would falter in the difficult ministry that lay in front of Him. One of the things that He realized He must cultivate was a great faith!

“For the Lord GOD will help Me;
Therefore I will not be disgraced;
Therefore I have set My face like a flint,
And I know that I will not be ashamed.”
Isaiah 50:7

1. “For the Lord GOD will help Me”

a) A strong relationship with God must first be established.
b) An ever-deepening knowledge of God would be of immense help.
c) A strong faith that God would help His Servant must be clearly embedded in heart and soul.
d) This was the confident faith that the Messiah-Servant possessed.

2. The first “therefore”

a) The first inference was a statement of trust in the Lord GOD.
b) Consequently, there came a powerful belief… “I will not be disgraced”.

3. The second “therefore”

a) The second inference has to do with the part that the Messiah must play.
b) “I have set My face like a flint”
i) The quality of the flint is to be found in its hardiness.
ii) A flint is often harder than many other types of rock.
iii) Jesus would train Himself to be strong and hard as a flint.

4. “And I know that I will not be ashamed”

a) The Messiah-Servant had fullness of faith in the Lord GOD (His Father).
b) Though He would have to endure much suffering He believed that it would not be in vain.
c) He would not need to be ashamed ever!
i) God’s perfect plan would be revealed one day.
ii) There is total confidence in the will of God.
iii) Pain and suffering are not to be feared or dreaded.
iv) It takes tremendous faith and strength to make such a bold declaration.
v) Jesus proved Himself wonderfully faithful when He had to endure great suffering.
