"The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever..."

Text: Psalm 19:9

WHEN THERE SEEMS TO BE A CONFLICT OF BIBLE TEXTS

The Devil quoted the Scriptures. The Lord Jesus then cited another text. What should we do when there is a seeming conflict of Bible texts? Let us take time to ponder this deep word of wisdom.

“The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins;
Let them not have dominion over me.
Then I shall be blameless,
And I shall be innocent of great transgression.”
Psalm 19:9, 13

1. “The fear of the LORD”

a) This was what the Lord Jesus obviously had.

b) As the Son of Man He practised the fear of the Lord.

c) This is evident: –

i) He would live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

ii) If He did not have a direct word from the Lord, He would not act on His own authority.

iii) There was no direct word from the Lord that He could or should jump from the pinnacle of the temple, thus He would not do that.

2. “Presumptuous sins”

a) To jump from the pinnacle of the temple would indeed be presumptuous and thus sinful.

b) It is vital that we should pray that God would indeed keep His Servant from sinning presumptuously.

3. “Let them not have dominion over me”

a) The nature of sin is not confined to a mere act.

b) Sin will always seek to dominate the individual.

c) Wise is the person who will reject presumptuous sins.

4. “Then I shall be blameless”

a) This is a good desire to have.

b) Jesus certainly sought to be blameless before the Lord.

5. “And I shall be innocent of great transgression”

a) This is another great desire to have.

b) To be free from guilt of sin.

c) To be innocent of great transgression.
