"The LORD has called Me from the womb..."

Text: Isaiah 49:1

A PROPHETIC TESTIMONY

We have a significant prophetic testimony concerning His birth and His calling.

“Listen, O coastlands, to Me,
And take heed, you peoples from afar!
The LORD has called Me from the womb;
From the matrix of My mother
He has made mention of My name.”
Isaiah 49:1

1. The testimony of the Messiah

a) Addressing the coastlands of Israel.
b) Addressing people who lived far away.

2. “The LORD has called Me”

a) The Messiah was conscious of His high and holy calling.
b) He testified that God Himself had called Him.

3. “From the matrix of My mother”

a) There are only a few people especially mentioned in the Bible whose birth was recorded.
b) A short list in the New Testament: –
i) John the Baptiser who prepared the way for the Lord (Luke 3).
ii) Jesus the Saviour.

4. “He has made mention of My name”

a) A number of ramifications must be pondered over.
i) There was a strong relationship between the Father and the Son.
ii) The Lord God had always delighted in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) The name of a person:-
i) It may represent his life’s work.
ii) God will protect the good name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

5. The special names of our Saviour

a) Jesus means “He will save”.
b) Christ means “The anointed One” (that is “The Messiah”).
c) Immanuel means “God with us”.

6. A special work of the Holy Spirit

It would take the Sevenfold Spirit to anoint Him for His life’s work (Isaiah 11:2; 42:1; 61:1-3).
