"Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling..."

Text: 2 Timothy 1:9

NEVER FORGET OUR CALLING

How was the apostle Paul able to be so consistent in his faith, life and ministry? He shared his thoughts with Timothy.

“Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling,
not according to our works, but according to His own
purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus
before time began.”
2 Timothy 1:9

1. “Who has saved us”

a) Paul could never forget how he was saved from his wretched sins.
b) His salvation became the permanent turning point in his life.
c) Till the day he died he would never forget how God had so mercifully given him salvation.
d) Paul never took his salvation for granted!

2. “And called us with a holy calling”

a) The word “calling” was another special word to Paul.
b) An essential idea of calling is “invitation” (John 2:2).
c) There were other nuances in the word “calling”.
i) A call to follow the Lord Jesus as a disciple.
ii) A call to serve the Lord.
iii) A call to suffer for the Lord.
d) The nature of the word “calling”
i) It is of divine origin.
ii) It is also “holy”.

3. “Not according to our works”

a) God’s calling is not based on personal human merit.
b) Certainly not our works.
i) Not according to our intelligence.
ii) Not according to our natural talents.
iii) Not according to our social status in life.
iv) Not according to our wealth.
v) Certainly not according to our own view of our personal worth!
