Day 3

"I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience..."

Text: 2 Timothy 1:3

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

One of the strongest ways in which Paul ministered was to lead by example. He was not merely a scholar of the Holy Scriptures, he sought to practise what he preached and taught. That added much weight to what he sought to teach others.

“I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did,
as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day.”
2 Timothy 1:3

1. “I thank God”

2. “Whom I serve with a pure conscience”

ii) He sought to serve with a pure conscience.

3. “As my forefathers did”

a) Paul must have been conscious of how faithfully the prophets of God served.
b) He sought to walk in their footsteps.

4. “As without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day”

a) People who were given to prayer in the Old Testament days.
i) Moses
ii) Samuel
iii) Elijah
b) Paul practised praying most diligently too.
i) Praying for the churches he founded and cared for.
ii) Praying for Timothy, his beloved son.
c) “Without ceasing… night and day”
i) This does not mean Paul prayed non-stop.
ii) Paul was committed to the practice of praying diligently.
He would end each night in prayer. He would begin each day in prayer!
