"The god of this age..."

Text: 2 Corinthians 4:4

STRONG SPIRITUAL RESISTANCE

Paul had a very active and significant ministry in the preaching of the Gospel. He travelled far and wide proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom of God! He met with great resistance.

1. Some mocked.

2. Others were violent.

3. Still others rejected the gospel he preached.

With great spiritual insight, he shared about powerful spiritual resistance to the ministry of the word of God.

“Whose minds the god of this age has blinded,
who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel
of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God,
should shine on them.”
2 Corinthians 4:4

1. “The god of this age”

a) This a reference to Satan.
b) He is described here as “the god of this age”.
c) He leads powerful spirits who will resist the servants of God (Ephesians 6:12).

2. The work of the Evil One

a) He will blind the spiritual eyes of people.
b) He will encourage them not to believe.
c) He will seek to dim the light of the gospel.
d) He will try and prevent people from coming to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. What the gospel of God would do

a) It will reflect the glory of Christ.
b) The gospel presents Christ Jesus as “the image of God”.
i) This is what the Apostle John wrote (John 1).
ii) This is also taught by the writer of the Epistle to Hebrews (Hebrews 1).
c) The gospel of Christ will seek to present Jesus
i) As the Light that dispels darkness.
ii) As the One who can give life to all who come to Him.
iii) As the One who has authority to make believers “the children of God” (John 1:10-12)
iv) As the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29, 36).

Let us be deeply committed to the ministry of the word of God as the means of Biblical evangelism!
