"We speak in the sight of God in Christ."

Text: 2 Corinthians 2:17

A GLORIOUS AND VICTORIOUS MESSAGE

Paul was aware that he had proclaimed a powerful and victorious message. He explains how he was able to speak so triumphantly.

“For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God;
but as of sincerity, but as from God,
we speak in the sight of God in Christ.”
2 Corinthians 2:17

1. “For we are not, as so many, peddling the word of God”

a) False teachers
i) There were many false teachers.
ii) They too appear to preach the word of God.
b) The motivation of these false teachers
i) They were preaching for profit.
ii) Their main focus was financial gain.
c) Their methods
i) To beguile the gullible.
ii) To exploit the weak.
iii) To entrap those who were ignorant.
iv) They offered false promises of great wealth as a blessing from God.
d) Paul distanced himself from these false teachers
i) He battled them fiercely.
ii) He exposed them as false prophets/ false teachers.

2. “As from”

a) “As from sincerity”
i) Paul claimed sincerity.
ii) He was prepared to be examined in the light.
b) “As from God”
i) This phrase was offered in strong contrast to the position of the false prophets/ teachers.
ii) Paul’s ministry came from God!

3. “We speak in the sight of God in Christ”

a) The message of triumphant in Christ was boldly preached in full confidence.
b) Paul was conscious of the very presence of God even as he proclaimed this glorious truth.
