"We do not war according to the flesh."

Text: 2 Corinthians 10:3

SPIRITUAL WARFARE

Paul recognised the reality of spiritual warfare. He wrote about this in at least two epistles (Ephesians 6 and 2 Corinthians 10). He was wise in recognising the grim reality of spiritual combat.

“For though we walk in the flesh,
we do not war according to the flesh.”
2 Corinthians 10:3

1. The reality of spiritual warfare

a) Paul highlighted this in his epistle to the Ephesians (Ephesians 6:10-18).
b) The enemies described:
i) The devil himself (Satan)
ii) Principalities
iii) Powers
iv) Rulers of the darkness of this age.
v) Spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
c) Our spiritual weapons
The whole armour of God has been provided:
i) Belt of truth
ii) Breastplate of righteousness
iii) Feet shod with the gospel of peace
iv) The shield of faith
v) The helmet of salvation
vi) The sword of the Spirit- the word of God

2. “Though we walk in the flesh”

a) This is obvious.
b) We are but mortal human beings.

3. “We do not war according to the flesh”

a) We do not rely on weapons of the flesh.
b) We rely on the weapons God has already given to us (see above).

4. What we need to do

a) Find strength from the Lord.
b) Practise seeking God in prayer.
c) Using the weapons God has graciously provided.
