"According to the glorious gospel..."

Text: 1 Timothy 1:11

THE GLORIOUS GOSPEL

The ministry of the apostle Paul was centred in the preaching of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ! Paul was never ashamed of proclaiming the gospel that redeemed and transformed his life.

“According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God
which was committed to my trust.”

1 Timothy 1:11

TWO SIGNIFICANT GIFTS OF GOD

God had given two important gifts to mankind. They were meant to be understood and carefully applied in life!

1. The law of God

a) This was meant to highlight the problem of sin that exists in the world.
b) The categories of the law Paul highlighted demonstrates the significance of the law.
i) The law must punish crime.
ii) The law must curb and deter the proliferation of that which is wicked.
c) However there are limitations as to what the law can accomplish.
i) It cannot cause a person to become righteous.
ii) It cannot deal with matters of the soul.
iii) It cannot bring about salvation/ redemption of the soul.

2. “The glorious gospel of the blessed God”

a) Paul introduces a new element.
b) He highlights “the gospel”.
i) This gospel came from the same God who gave the law.
ii) He may indeed be called “the blessed God”.
iii) The pronouncement of the name of God moved Paul to bless His name.

3. “Which was committed to my trust”

a) The Gospel was well-described here as something that was “entrusted”.
b) The gospel did not originate from Paul.
c) However he experienced its power first-hand.
i) It had power to redeem a person’s soul no matter how sinful the person may have been.
ii) It has power to bring about positive and significant transformation and Paul personally experienced this in his life.
