"You are witnesses, and God also..."
Text: 1 Thessalonians 2:10
LIVING IN GREAT CONSCIOUSNESS
Paul and his team displayed a great sense of consciousness of God and the people they served very consistently. This consciousness is of great importance.
“You are witnesses, and God also,
how devoutly and justly and blamelessly
we behaved ourselves among you who believe.”
1 Thessalonians 2:10
1. Consciousness of Witnesses
a) Human witnesses
b) Divine witness
c) It is important to bear in mind that we are being watched.
2. Chosen way of life
a) Devoutly (Holiness is in mind)
b) Justly (Righteousness is in mind)
c) Blamelessly (Not blameworthy is in mind)
3. “We behaved”
a) The word “behaved” suggests “being”.
b) This behaviour was not something put on as a show.
c) Paul and his team were careful to display excellent behaviour.
i) As becoming of servants of God.
ii) This behaviour was genuine.
iii) It arose out of their faith in God.
4. “Among you who believe”
a) Nothing was taken for granted.
b) This high standard of behaviour was maintained consistently.
c) Even among believers excellent behaviour was practised most consciously.
THE CHALLENGE TODAY
Many speak of faith in the Lord, but few are able to match faith with an excellent lifestyle. Paul and his team were able to see great success in their ministry for two special reasons. They worked very hard. They led admirable lives!
God’s blessings are assured when these things are pursued. Our challenge is to be moved to emulate the excellent example set by Paul and his fellow-labourers! Nothing less would result in great fruitfulness in life and ministry.
