"Commit their souls"

Text: 1 Peter 4:19

COMMITING OUR SOULS TO GOD

Tribulation is not an easy thing to face! However, trials and suffering are a very real part of life. It is wise and important to learn how we may trust the Lord fully!

“Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God
commit their souls to Him in doing good,
as to a faithful Creator.”
1 Peter 4:19

1. “Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God”

a) Suffering
i) It is part and parcel of life.
ii) It is also to be expected as believers in Christ.
b) It must be because of our wrongdoing (1 Peter 4:15).
c) According to the will of God:
i) As a Christian (1 Peter 4:16).
ii) In acceptance that God may call us to suffer for righteousness’ sake (1 Peter 3:14).

2. “Commit their souls to Him in doing good”

a) The word “commit”:
i) To place everything into God’s hand.
ii) To trust God fully.
b) Committing our very souls:
i) This thought was drawn from Psalm 31:5.
ii) This was what the Lord Jesus Christ did as well (Luke 23:46).
iii) This was strongly urged by the Apostle Peter.
c) “Doing good”
i) A reminder that the believer must continue to do good things.
ii) Even if while “doing good” he has to endure suffering.

3. “As to a faithful Creator”

a) To whom do we commit our souls?
To the Lord our God.
b) He is our Creator God.
c) He is our faithful God.
i) He will be faithful to His word of promise.
ii) He will be faithful to all who trust in Him.
iii) We may have absolute trust in Him.
