"Your faith and hope are in God"

Text: 1 Peter 1:21

FAITH AND HOPE

These are closely related. Both are essential to apply in our life.

“Who through Him believe in God,
who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory,
so that your faith and hope are in God.”
1 Peter 1:21

1. “Who through Him believe in God”

a) The word “believe” is where we get the word “faith”.
b) In the Greek text, “faith” is simply “belief”.
c) In English, they are different words; but they have the same essential meaning.
d) How do we end up believing in God?
i) It is through “Him,” that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
ii) He explained what God is like.
iii) He exemplified what God truly is like.

2. “Who raised Him from the dead”

a) Jesus paid a great price for our redemption.
b) He gave His life that we may be forgiven of our sins.
c) God raised Him from the dead:
i) As His acceptance of His sacrifice.
ii) As His approval of His life.
iii) As His confirmation of our redemption.
iv) As an example of the teaching of eternal life.

3. “And gave Him glory”

a) The glory as of the only-begotten Son of God.
b) The glory that is well-deserved.
c) The glory of a Risen Saviour.
d) The glory of a glorious King.

4. “Faith and hope are in God”

a) Our faith is in God indeed:
i) In His word.
ii) In His promises.
b) Our hope
i) Faith translates into hope.
ii) Hope is faith not fully realised just yet.
c) Our faith and hope
i) They are not in vain.
ii) They are placed in a God who has power to raise the dead.
