"The precious blood of Christ"

Text: 1 Peter 1:19

THE COST OF OUR REDEMPTION

The price that was paid for our redemption must be carefully borne in mind.

“But with the precious blood of Christ,
as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
1 Peter 1:19

1. “But”

a) A very strong contrast was drawn with the use of this “conjunction”.
b) There are a few conjunctions that may be translated as “But”.
c) This is the strongest of the conjunctions to offer a stark contrast.

2. “The precious blood of Christ”

a) “Christ” is a title.
b) It means, “The Anointed One”.
c) That is, “The Messiah”.
d) He had to shed His life’s blood to give us redemption.

3. An appreciation of the blood of Christ

a) It is described as “precious”.
The word “precious” means “worthy of honour”.
b) “As of a lamb”
i) A sacrificial lamb is in mind here.
ii) The Lord Jesus was that Lamb of God that took away the sin of the world (John 1:29, 36).
c) “Without blemish”
This means that the Lamb was “spotless”. Jesus, the Lamb of God was sinless!
d) “Without spot”
i) This is a synonym. They are a beautiful pair of synonyms.
ii) It strengthens the idea of being “spotless”. It means “without defect”.
