"Kept by the power of God"

Text: 1 Peter 1:5

THE POWER OF GOD

Sometimes, we are so concerned about the power of man that we forget that God has absolute power.

“Who are kept by the power of God through faith
for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
1 Peter 1:5

1. The word “who”

a) Essentially this is a reference to believers.

b) Specifically, in the context of 1 Peter.

i) This is a reference to the “pilgrims” (1 Peter 1:1).

ii) The “elect” (1 Peter 1:2).

iii) The ones who have “a living hope” (1 Peter 1:3).

iv) The ones who have “an inheritance” from God (1 Peter 1:4).

2. The tribulation experienced

a) Becoming “pilgrims”.

b) Losing home and loved ones.

3. God’s power

a) God has not lost His powers at all.

b) He is still Lord.

4. “Kept by the power of God”

a) The word “kept” means “protected”.

b) The believers were being kept and protected by the power of God
(even as Peter was writing this epistle).

c) This power of God was not static.

d) It was dynamic and mighty.

5. “Through faith”

a) The believers are called to exercise their faith in God.

i) Faith in God must be applied.

ii) It would help them cope better in the midst of the tribulation being faced.

b) Through faith they would be able to do the following:

i) To see the power of God protecting them.

ii) To appreciate that God’s power was sufficient for them.

6. “Salvation ready to be revealed in the last time”

a) Salvation is spoken of as a journey of faith.

b) Salvation makes us:

i) Children of God

ii) Heirs of God

c) Our journey on earth:

i) This life on earth is not everything.

ii) Our final destination would be in heaven where our inheritance awaits.

d) Our salvation journey would conclude:

i) We die and we go to our home in heaven.

ii) The Lord Jesus returns for us in His Second Coming.

e) The phrase, “the last time”:

i) Sometimes, it is called “the last days”.

ii) This period began when Jesus came to earth.

iii)This period will end when He returns to earth.

iv) That would be a special “revelation” of the Lord Jesus.

Meanwhile, we must continue to exercise our faith and put our trust in Lord.
