"For the gospel's sake..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 9:23

A DEEP COMMITMENT TO THE GOSPEL

Paul developed a very strong and steadfast commitment to the preaching of the Gospel. This was well-evidenced in his life and ministry!

“Now this I do for the gospel’s sake,
that I may be partaker of it with you.”
1 Corinthians 9:23

1. The gospel of God

a) Paul defined the gospel carefully (Romans 1:1-5).
b) The heart of the gospel was the cross of Christ (1 Corinthians 1:17-18).

2. “For the gospel’s sake”

Paul endured much for the sake of the gospel.

a) He was rejected.
b) He was maligned.
c) He was persecuted.
d) He was imprisoned (Philippi, Rome etc).
e) He was physically abused.
i) Stoned
ii) Beaten

3. “That I may be partaker of it with you”

a) This is a reference to the imagery of sowing the seed.
b) It was natural for a farmer to feel this way:
i) Commitment to sow well.
ii) Watering of the plants.
iii) Watching to see it grow to fruition.
iv) Rejoicing when the harvest is brought in.
v) Much joy if there is a great harvest.

DENIED TO PAUL

Sadly, Paul was denied being a partaker of the work done in Corinth.

1. He was set aside.

2. He did not have any support from the Corinthian Church.

3. Instead, his apostleship was questioned.

4. His ministry in Corinth was not even properly acknowledged!
