"For our sakes, no doubt, this is written..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 9:10

THE SCOPE OF THE LAWS OF GOD

Paul’s understanding of the laws of God is most insightful. These laws had far-reaching effects. The law protecting animal rights was not restricted to animals alone. There were other ramifications!

“Or does He say it altogether for our sakes?
For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that he
who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes
in hope should be partaker of his hope.”
1 Corinthians 9:10

1. “Or does He say it”

a) The law of God was not seen as an antiquated document.
b) Paul wrote about God speaking through the law.
i) It is current.
ii) It is relevant.
iii) It is authoritative.

2. “Altogether for our sakes”

a) This law was written and may be found in Deuteronomy 25:4.
b) However, the application of this law was meant for people.
c) It was relevant to the issue at hand.

3. “For our sakes, no doubt, it is written”

a) The laws of God transcend time.
b) There are truths and principles to be found in the laws of God.
c) “He (God) says” and “It is written” are to be equated.
d) The written word effectively represents what God says.

4. The big truth is HOPE

a) There is the Sower.

He sows in hope that what he sows would yield a good crop.

b) There is the Thresher.

He has reaped the harvest, and he must now do the threshing.
He threshes in hope.

c) There is also the Partaker

This is actually a reference to the Sower and the Thresher.
He hopes to partake of the work put in!

5. A deep spiritual truth

Paul was astute in his ability to see how the Law of God was tied in to “Hope”. The Partaker must sow and thresh in hope! It is natural to hope that when one sows he will also be a partaker of what he has sown! There was a deep spiritual truth that needs to be understood and applied in life!
