"For the Lord..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:13

WITH REFERENCE TO THE LORD

Paul’s way of life reflected the fact that he was consciously living for the Lord! Every decision he made was with reference to God! What a magnificent example he has set!

“Foods for the stomach and the stomach for foods,
but God will destroy both it and them.
Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord,
and the Lord for the body. And God both raised up
the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.”
1 Corinthians 6:13-14

1. Two things were highlighted

a) Food
b) Immorality

2. Paul highlighted these because they were apparently problems at Corinth

a) People lived for food.
b) They also exalted sexual pleasure.

3. The proper focus

a) How should we view our physical body?
i) It would one day be destroyed.
ii) The body God has given was not meant to be abused.
iii) It was not meant to become addicted to either food or immorality.
b) The body was meant to be used appropriately.
i) It was meant to be dedicated for the Lord.
ii) It was meant to be used for the service of God.
iii) It was meant to bring glory to the Lord.

4. The doctrine of Resurrection

a) God raised up the Lord Jesus Christ.
b) One day God would give us a resurrection body like that of the Lord Jesus.
c) It would take great divine power from God to do this.

5. Ramifications

a) Every believer should live in this consciousness of God and His power in life.
b) The body should be consecrated to God in every aspect of life!
