"The unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:9

RAISING BASIC ISSUES

The Corinthian Church seemed to be rife with problems. These problems added together caused Paul to raise up basic issues.

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not
inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.
Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers,
nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners,
will inherit the kingdom of God.”
1 Corinthians 6:9-10

1. “The kingdom of God”

a) This was the message Jesus proclaimed.
b) This was also the message of the Apostles.

2. Inheriting the kingdom of God

a) The righteous will inherit the kingdom of God.
b) These have come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
c) They have been washed and cleansed.
d) They have been brought into the kingdom of God.

3. “The unrighteous”

a) Paul highlighted a list of things that would describe “the unrighteous”.
b) This list is self-explanatory

WHAT WAS PAUL TRYING TO SAY?

Let us ponder why Paul wrote as he did!

1. The Corinthians must examine whether they had actually understood what it means to inherit the kingdom of God.

a) Had they truly believed in the Lord Jesus Christ?
b) Were they following Him?

2. They must also examine whether they had appreciated what it means to inherit the kingdom of God?

a) The inheritance they have from God must cause them not to covet things of the world.
b) Seeking gain through suing each other would suggest that they were chasing after earthly treasures.

3. They must further examine their spiritual status.

a) They were showing grave signs of carnality.
b) They were not walking aright!
