"The gospel which I preached to you..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 15:1

THE GLORIOUS GOSPEL

The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is indeed good news! It is through the gospel that salvation is obtained. Paul was deeply committed to the preaching of the gospel.

“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel
which I preached to you, which also you received
and in which you stand,
by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word
which I preached to you- unless you believed in vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:1-2

1. “I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you”

a) Once again Paul was going to declare the gospel.
b) This was the same gospel that he had preached to the Corinthians before.
c) The gospel message had not changed.
d) Indeed, it must never be changed!

2. “Which also you received”

a) Paul remembered how he preached the gospel in Corinth.
b) He also remembered how the Corinthians received the gospel.
c) They had received the gospel well.
d) The word “received” in the Greek text suggests a strong reception.

3. “In which you stand”

a) They had received the gospel well.
b) They had stood in the truth of the gospel.
c) They continued to stand in the same gospel truth.

4. “By which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you”

a) Salvation is wonderfully offered in the gospel.
b) But if there is true salvation, there would also be the holding fast to the Word of God preached.
c) Salvation in and through the gospel.
d) Obviously, it stands to reason that one should hold fast to the gospel.

5. “Unless you believed in vain”

a) This thought had to be brought across strongly.
b) The possibility that there was false belief is all too real.
c) This was what the Lord Jesus warned too (Matthew 7:21-23).
