"You are in Christ Jesus..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:30

AN IMPORTANT REMINDER

Paul gave an important reminder that we are not of the world, but rather of God. It is sometimes all too easy to forget the significance of belonging to the Lord as His people.

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us
wisdom from God- and righteousness and sanctification
and redemption-”
1 Corinthians 1:30

1. “Of Him”

a) This may be a little phrase but it is not without significance.
b) We are reminded of the following: –
i) Our belonging to the Lord our God.
ii) We are His people.
iii) We have been called out of the world to be His children.

2. “You are in Christ Jesus”

a) Our position before the Lord:
i) His people
ii) His children
iii) His heirs (joint heirs with Christ)
b) This is possible only because of what the Lord Jesus Christ has done for us
i) In His suffering and death.
ii) In His atonement for our sins.
iii) In His resurrection that we may be raised with Him.
iv) In His authority to make us the children of God (John 1:12).

3. A fresh appreciation of the Lord Jesus Christ

Four things were particularly highlighted:

a) He is the personification of Wisdom from God.
i) This may be seen in the way He taught His disciples and the multitudes.
ii) No one ever spoke with such wisdom and grace (Matthew 7:28; Luke 4:22).
b) In Him is our righteousness (Roman 4:22-25).
c) In Him is our sanctification (Hebrews 2:11).
d) In Him is our redemption (Ephesians 1:7).
