 POST-PRAYER CONSIDERATIONS

  1. Post-Practice

a) After we have prayed
b) We are to practise what we have prayed for
  1. The Practice of Forgiveness Matthew 6:14

a) If you forgive men their trespasses
b) Your heavenly Father will also forgive you
  1. The Non-Practice of Forgiveness Matthew 6:15

a) But if you do not forgive men their trespasses
b) Neither will your Father forgive your trespasses

PARABLE OF THE UNFORGIVING SERVANT

Matthew 18:21-35

  1. The context

a) Peter asking how often he must forgive a brother Matthew 18:21
            He offered an answer- To forgive seven times
b) The Reply of the Lord Jesus
            To forgive 70 times 7                                                           Matthew 18:22
  1. The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

a) Part 1 (Matthew 18:23-27)
i) A servant owed the king 10,000 talents
ii) Penalty-
                        Jail for the whole family and Liquidation of all assets to pay debt
iii) The servant pleaded
iv) The king forgave
b) Part 2   (Matthew 18:28-30)
i) The servant sought out a fellow-servant
ii) He demanded that his debt be paid
iii) But the fellow-servant could not pay his debt
iv) He was thrown into jail
c) Part 3   (Matthew 28:31)
i) Other fellow-servants reported this matter to the king
ii) They were grieved
d) Part 4 (Matthew 18:32-35)
i) The king rebuked the unforgiving servant
ii) He reminded him of how much he had been forgiven
iii) Could he not have had compassion on his fellow-servant?
iv) The unforgiving servant was sentenced to jail
