Subject: Understanding “Tribulation”

And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 

and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 5:3-5

THINGS WE SHOULD GLORY IN

1. Justification

a) That we can be justified by God
b) That through Justification we have Peace with God
c) And we have Hope of the glory of God

2. Tribulation

a) This was a challenging thought to consider
b) How may we glory in Tribulation?

A SERIES OF CONNECTED THOUGHTS

1. The meaning of the word “ to glory” (Romans 5:3)

a) To “boast in”
b) To “triumph in”
c) To “rejoice in”
d) To be “confident in”

2. How may we “glory in tribulation?

a) Tribulation
i) Pressure
ii) Hardship
iii) Suffering
b) Knowing
i) Knowledge
ii) Certainty of the outcome through knowledge

3. What Tribulation will produce

a) “Perseverance”
b) It is the ability to endure patiently

4. What Perseverance will produce

a) “Character”
b) That which has been tested and approved

5. What Character will produce

a) “Hope” (Romans 5:4
b) “Hope in the glory of God” (Romans 5:3

A HOPE THAT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT

1. This Hope

a) It is real
b) It is certain
c) It is confirmed

2. This is confirmed in 2 special things God has given to us

a) His love that has been poured out into our hearts
b) This love is administered by the Holy Spirit given to us
c) The Spirit of God causes us to be born again John 3
d) He affirms that God loves us John 3:16

OUR CHALLENGE

1. To be unafraid of Tribulation

2. To accept that God has allowed Tribulation in our life

3. God seeks to cultivate us further through Tribulation
