Subject: “The oracles of God”

1 What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision?

2 Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God.

3 For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect?

4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written:

“That You may be justified in Your words,

And may overcome when You are judged.”

Romans 4:1-4

1. Was there any advantage of being a Jew, if all were to be judged by God?

2. The straightforward answer

YES!

3. What were the Benefits of being a Jew?

a) The Rite of Circumcision
i) The History
ii) The Tradition
iii) The Significance of the Abrahamic Covenant
b) The Oracles of God
i) The Truths God spoke to teach Israel
ii) The Written law

4. Responsibility of being a Jew

a) Believing in God
b) It was their privilege
i) To be given so much
ii) To have such deep knowledge of God

5. What if some would not believe?

a) In God
b) In His faithfulness to Israel
c) Their unbelief affects nothing
d) It is not God’s fault if the Jews did not believe

6. The LORD is God

a) The LORD is justified even if some do not believe
b) The teachings of the LORD would be found to be faultless
c) If God were to be judged, He would still overcome all charges
d) The Verdict when God is judged
i) He is holy
ii) He is righteous
iii) He has proven Himself to be longsuffering mist consistently

7, If anyone does not believe

God is not reflected in any negative way!

CONCLUSION

1. Conclusion of Romans 1-2

a) The Gentiles would be judged (Romans 1)
b) The Jews would also be judged (Romans 2)

2. Our Challenge

a) To recognize our sinful state
b) To be remorseful and repentant
c) To receive the Lord Jesus as the Saviour and Lord
d) To live by Faith
