The Feast of Weeks (Pentecost)

Text: Deuteronomy 16:19-23; Leviticus 23:15-22

THE FEAST OF WEEKS (PENTECOST)

1. This was related to the Harvesting of the crops   (Deuteronomy 16:9; Leviticus 23:15-22)

2. When?

50th Day after the Passover Sabbath

3. This was meant to represent paying tribute to the Lord    (Deuteronomy 16:10)

a) A freewill offering
b) As the Lord blesses
c) To rejoice in the Lord
d) As a family (son/ daughter)
e) As a household (male/ female servants)    (Deuteronomy 16:11)
f) Others
i) The Levite within your gate
ii) The stranger
iii) The fatherless
iv) The widow    (Deuteronomy 16:11)

4. At the place where the Lord would choose Jerusalem    (2 Chronicles 7:15)

5. Special remembrance

a) The past as slaves in Egypt
b) To be careful this is never forgotten    (Deuteronomy 16:12)

6. To allow corners of the field to be left for the poor to glean    (Leviticus 23:22)

7. The offerings to be given    (Leviticus 23:15-22)

a) Two wave loaves
b) Fine flour
c) Baked with leaven   (Leviticus 23:17)
d) Seven lambs of the first year    (Leviticus 23:18)
e) One young bull
f) Two rams    (Leviticus 23:19)
g) These are to be offered as a burnt offering to the Lord    (Leviticus 23:20)
h) The offerings are called: –
i) Grain offering
ii) Drink offering
iii) Burnt offering… for a sweet aroma to the Lord    (Leviticus 23:18)

8. Other offerings alongside

a) Sin offering
One kid of the goats    (Leviticus 23:19a)
b) Peace offering
Two male lambs of the first year    (Leviticus 23:19b)

9. The Ministry of the Priest

a) To wave the offerings of bread as a firstfruit offering
“A wave offering”    (Leviticus 23:20)
b) Offering to the Lord
c) For the priest    (Leviticus 23:20)
