(II) APPEARANCE OF GOD TO ISAAC

1. Specific instructions

a) Not to go down to Egypt (Genesis 26:2b)

b) To dwell in the land (Genesis 26:3)

a) Promise of God’s Presence (Genesis 26:3b)

b) Promise of blessing (Genesis 26:3c)

3. Reiteration of the Covenantal Promise

a) The promise of the Land of Canaan (Genesis 26:3d)

b) The Land will be inherited by Isaac’s descendants (Genesis 26:3e)

c) God’s oath to Abraham will be fulfilled (Genesis 26:3d)

d) Multiplication of descendants (Genesis 26:4a)

e) Blessings to extend to all the earth (Genesis 26:4b)

5. Messianic element to be noted

a) In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 22:18)

b) And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed (Genesis 26:4)
