(I) COMMUNICATION BETWEEN GOD AND ABRAM

1. God spoke to Abram (Genesis 12:1)

2. God appeared to Abram (Genesis 12:7)

3. God gave a vision to Abram (Genesis 15:1)

4. God appeared to Abram (Genesis 17:1)

(II) REVELATION OF GOD TO ABRAM

1. As God Almighty (El Shaddai) (Genesis 17:1)

2. As a Covenant-Keeping God

a) Covenant offered (Genesis 17:2)

b) Covenant to be established (Genesis 17:7)

c) An everlasting covenant (Genesis 17:7)

(III) COMMAND TO ABRAHAM

1. Walk before God (Genesis 17:1)

2. Be blameless (Genesis 17:1)

3. To keep God’s covenant (Genesis 17:9)

(IV) GREAT AND SPECIAL PROMISES

1. Promise of blessings (Genesis 17:2)

2. Multiplying of blessings

3. Blessings to be on Descendants (Genesis 17:7-8)

4. Exceedingly fruitful (Genesis 17:6)

5. Make Nations of you (Genesis 17:6)

6. Kings shall come from you (Genesis 17:6)

7. Canaan will be given as an everlasting possession (Genesis 17:8)

(V) CHANGE OF NAME

1. Abram to Abraham (Genesis 17:5)

a) Meaning: A father of many nations (Genesis 17:5)

b) To signify a change of spiritual status

2. Sarai to Sarah (Genesis 17:15)

a) Sarai- “My princess”

b) Sarah- “Princess”

(VI) BLESSINGS TO BE OUTPOURED ON SARAH TOO

1. Promise of a son (Genesis 17:16)

2. A mother of nations (Genesis 17:16)

3. Kings and peoples shall be from her (Genesis 17:16)

(VII) SIGN OF THE COVENANT

1. The sign of circumcision (Genesis 17:10-14)

2. Abraham was circumcised at 99 years (Genesis 17:24)

3. Ishmael was circumcised at 13 years (Genesis 17:25)

4. All the men in his household were circumcised (Genesis 17:27)

(VIII) PROMISE OF BLESSING TO ISHAMAEL

1. He will be fruitful (Genesis 17:20)

2. He will have 12 princes (Genesis 17:20)

3. He will become a great nation (Genesis 17:20)
