ANGELIC VISIT TO SODOM

(I) ANGELIC VISIT TO SODOM

1. The two angels enter Sodom in the evening (Genesis 19:1a)

2. Lot sees them invites them to stay with him (Genesis 19:1b-3)

3. He shows them great courtesy and hospitality (Genesis 19:3)

(II) THE WICKED DEMANDS OF THE MEN OF SODOM

1. Both old and young thronged the house of Lot (Genesis 19:4)

2. They demanded that the two angels be released to them (Genesis 19:5)

3. Obvious wicked and perverse intention to be noted

(III) LOT’S PLEA

1. He pleads with the men (Genesis 19:6-7)

2. He offers his daughters (Genesis 19:8)

(IV) ANGER OF THE MEN OF SODOM

1. They reject his offer

2. They threaten Lot

3. They become violent (Genesis 19:8-9)

(V) ANGELIC INTERVENTION

1. They pull Lot into the safety of the home

2. They strike the men of Sodom blind (Genesis 19:10-11)

(VI) COMMAND OF THE ANGELS

1. To depart from Sodom

2. The city will be destroyed

3. All who leave the city would be saved (Genesis 19:12-14)

(VII) LOT’S WORD TO HIS FAMILY

1. He pleads with his sons-in-law to go with him

2. They reject his invitation (Genesis 19:14)

(VIII) AN URGENT WORD

1. Lot, his wife and his two daughters must leave immediately

2. The angels took all of them by hand and led them out (Genesis 19:15-16)

3. The family was urged to flee and not to look back (Genesis 19:17)

(IX) LOT’S PLEA

1. No need to go to the mountains for safety

2. A nearby city (Zoar) as a possible option (Genesis 19:18-20)

(X) CONCESSION MADE

1. Agreement of angels

2. Lot may flee to Zoar and be granted protection (Genesis 19:21-23)

(XI) DESTRUCTION OF SODOM AND GOMORRAH

1. Brimstone and fire sent from heaven

2. Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed (Genesis 19:24-25)

(XII) LOT’S FAMILY

1. His wife looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:26)

2. His daughters committed incest

a) Moab

b) Ammon (Genesis 19:30-38)

(XIII) ABRAHAM

He knew that the angels could not find 10 righteous men in Sodom and Gomorrah. The twin cities had been destroyed! (Genesis 19:27-19)
