THE WORD OF GOD

1. The nature of God’s word

a) The words of the Lord are pure words (Psalm 12:6)
i) Like silver tried in a furnace
ii) Purified seven times
b) God will preserve His word
i) The wicked will try and pervert it
ii) They will try and destroy it

2. What it can do for us

a) It can convert the soul (Psalm 19:7a)
b) It can make wise the simple (Psalm 19:7b)
c) It can rejoice the heart (Psalm 19:8a)
d) It can enlighten the eyes (Psalm 19:8b)
e) It can warn us (Psalm 19:11a)
f) It can bring great reward (Psalm 19:11b)

LEARNING FROM THE WORD OF GOD

2. Consequences of being an Ungodly Person

THE RIGHTEOUS PERSON’S ACTIVITIES

1. What he will not do

a) Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly
b) Nor stands in the path of sinners
c) Nor sits in the seat of the scornful

2. The delight of the righteous man (Psalm 1:2)

i) Is in the law of the LORD
ii) In His law he meditates day and night

THE BLESSING OF THE RIGHTEOUS PERSON

1. He will be blessed by the Lord (Psalm 1:1)

2. Compared to a tree (Psalm 1:3)

a) Planted by the rivers of water
b) That brings forth its fruit in its season
c) Whose leaf also shall not wither
d) And whatever he does shall prosper
e) The Lord knows the way of the righteous (Psalm 1:6a)

THE UNGODLY IN CONTRAST

1. The ungodly are like chaff which the wind drives away (Psalm 1:4)

2. The ungodly shall not stand in the judgment (Psalm 1:5)

3. The sinners will not stand in the congregation of the righteous (Psalm 1:5)

4. The way of the ungodly shall perish Psalm 1:6b
